Netflix Has Renewed "The Umbrella Academy" for a Third Season

Thank goodness.

With so many excellent shows being cancelled this year—*cough* Teenage Bounty Hunters *cough*—it has felt like none of our favourite series are safe from being axed.

That's why we've been living in a state of constant fear and anxiety, impatiently waiting for Netflix to announce whether The Umbrella Academy would be renewed for a third season.

Alas, we do not have to worry anymore. Fortunately, the streaming service has put us all out of our misery and confirmed that the series is returning for Season 3.

If you haven't seen the show, The Umbrella Academy revolves around a dysfunctional family of adopted sibling superheroes who reunite to solve the mystery of their father's death and the threat of an impending apocolypse.

Basically, if you live for highly chaotic storylines, this one is for you.

The show is based on the Dark Horse Comics created and written by My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá.

*Spoilers for Season 2 of The Umbrella Academy below.*

Season 2 of The Umbrella Academy landed on Netflix in July, which feels like an entire lifetime ago. So, let's refresh our memories.

In the S1 finale, Five (Aidan Gallagher) warned the rest of the Hargreeves siblings that using his powers to escape from Vanya's (Ellen Page) 2019 apocalypse was pretty risky. Unsurprisingly, he was completely right. In S2, the group found themselves scattered through time during the 1960s in Dallas, Texas.

The season ended with Five, Vanya, Luther (Tom Hopper), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) and Diego (David Castañeda) all grabbing hands to make another time jump from the 1960s back to 2019. However, it didn't exactly go to plan...

Instead, they found their late father, Reginald (Colm Feore) is alive and Umbrella Academy doesn't exist at all. Reginald has created the Sparrow Academy, and one of its members is their formerly dead brother, Ben (Justin H. Min).

Yeah, we told you it's chaotic.

*End of Season 2 spoilers.*

At this stage, no plot details or release date for S3 have been confirmed. However, production for the upcoming season is set to begin in February.

We heard a rumour that it's going to be great.
