Netflix Canceled "Teenage Bounty Hunters", So We Must Now Take the Law Into Our Own Hands

The only true order is disorder.

Netflix has decided to give Teenage Bounty Hunters the chop after one season, which is such a coincidence, because today I decided to karate chop everyone involved in this decision.

The news came as Netflix handed down two cancellations to shows produced by Jenji Kohan: Glow and TBH.

According to Deadline, Netflix reversed their fourth-season renewal of Glow due to the affects COVID-19 had on production. But COVID-19 had nothing to do with their decision to axe Teenage Bounty Hunters. Turns out, they just didn’t want to go ahead with S2.

We, of course, made no secret of our love for Teenage Bounty Hunters here at Student Edge. (If you’re not sure what it’s about, I’ll direct you back to its title for an explanation.)

Shortly after the show’s debut in August—at which point it hit Netflix’s Top 10, mind you—we reflected on the ingenious 'telepathic' device used between its star sisters, played by Maddie Phillips and Anjelica Bette Fellini. And in September, when an announcement for a second season was not forthcoming, we criticised Netflix for its baffling (AKA: non-existent) promotional strategy and pretty much straight-up threatened them to deliver us more eps.

After all, as we wrote: "We want/need another season because Teenage Bounty Hunters was the rare high school comedy to explore sisterly dynamics, coming out as queer in a Christian community, mixed-race relationships in a Republican state and the logistics of bounty hunting from a yoghurt store. It did all of the above with a spiky sense of humour, sex positivity and surprising depth. And it helped that the two leads had a dynamite chemistry rarely matched by any on-screen pairing of late."

Sadly, Netflix did not heed our warning, and are therefore about to have the collective fury of the TBH fanbase raining down upon them. We must now rush their corporate headquarters much like the internet rushed Area 51.

The stars of the show have also joined fans in mourning, with Phillips even on board should another streaming service pick it up for a second season.

Some, however, have opted against literally rioting in the streets, and instead turned to a Change.org petition, expressing how much TBH meant to them personally.

We only wish we could be as clearheaded and thoughtful in our response. You know where we'll be...
