Will "Teenage Bounty Hunters" Get a Second Season? Netflix Better Do It

FKA Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters.
Update (06/10): Netflix has made the grave error of cancelling Teenage Bounty Hunters, and they will now pay the ultimate price. Read more here. The original article is as follows.
Netflix sure has a funny way of promoting shows. Back in June of 2019, they announced production beginning on Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters, and then went radio silent basically until they dropped the series—retitled simply Teenage Bounty Hunters, bummer—on 15 August 2020 to little fanfare.
It brings to mind another business strategy that we heard once upon a time.

Nonetheless, we—like many other Netflix subscribers—discovered the series seemingly against Netflix’s intentions, and made it one of the most watched on the service in August. Turns out the title, even without "Slutty" in there, managed to pretty clearly convey what it was actually gonna be about. It helped that it was also great!
Now, having finished its too-short 10-episode season, which is capped with a hell of a cliffhanger, we’re left wondering if Netflix will produce a follow-up?

So, will there be a second season of Teenage Bounty Hunters?
Unfortunately, Netflix is yet to announce whether or not they’ll renew the show, though it’s rare for the service to give up on a series after just one season. However, the circumstances of 2020 (curse this year!) make its renewal prospects a little dicier.
Production began on the first season in Atlanta back in July of 2019, wrapping in October. If Netflix had hoped to repeat that production schedule in 2020, they were flat out of luck, because a certain pesky pandemic ended up shuttering all projects that were meant to film in the United States over this period. For what it’s worth, productions in Georgia are meant to re-commence in the American fall (AKA Australia’s spring). That's, umm, about now.
It’s not even known if a writers room was reassembled for Season 2, or if the team behind TBH have been waiting to get the official greenlight from Netflix. As with most Netflix shows, we’re probably just gonna have to be surprised by an online clip of the cast saying that, yes, they’re reuniting, or a solemn tweet announcing that, no, they ain’t coming back. Perhaps it helps that the show is produced by Jenji Kohan, behind one of Netflix's longer-running shows, Orange is the New Black. We can dream, anyway.

Why must we have a second season? Spoilers ahead…
The series, which stars Maddie Phillips and Anjelica Bette Fellini as Sterling and Blair Wesley, ends with the fraternal twins discovering, shock horror, they aren’t even sisters, let alone twins.
Turns out the twins’ mum, Debbie (Virginia Williams), is the twin, and it's her evil-ish sister (also played by Williams) who birthed Sterling. Why or how Debbie came to raise both girls as her own isn’t explained before the final episode cuts to credits.
But getting an answer to the above revelation isn’t the real reason we want to see a second season (nor do we want an explanation as to how Sterling and Blair can communicate telepathically if they’re not twins). We want/need another season because Teenage Bounty Hunters was the rare high school comedy to explore sisterly dynamics, coming out as queer in a Christian community, mixed-race relationships in a Republican state and the logistics of bounty hunting from a yoghurt store. It did all of the above with a spiky sense of humour, sex positivity and surprising depth. And it helped that the two leads had a dynamite chemistry rarely matched by any on-screen pairing of late.
So, Netflix, heed our call: deliver us a second season of Teenage Bounty Hunters, COVID-19 or no. You have our demands.
