It’s a Party and No One Is Invited: Student Edge’s Self-Isolation Spotify Playlist

It’s a Party and No One Is Invited: Student Edge’s Self-Isolation Spotify Playlist

Turn it up so the neighbours can hear.

Welp, with the coronavirus pandemic sweeping the globe, and Australia’s leaders calling for unprecedented self-isolation measures, it seems we’re gonna be spending a lot more time than usual at home over the next few months.

(Unless you’re the kind of introvert who’s been training for this moment all their lives by always cancelling plans at the last minute to spend more time under a blanket with some ordered-in takeout. This is your moment, enjoy it.)

Though schools may still be open for now, we all need to practice social distancing on weeknights and weekends. So, if you get an invite to any small-to-medium (and especially large) gatherings, in the now-prophetic words of social-distancing icon Dua Lipa, "Don’t show up, don’t come out."

It’ll be tough, and you should keep in constant contact with family and friends via social media, online games and video chat so you're not completely alone. (And if you need additional help during this time, there are resources you should take advantage of. If you or anyone you know needs help, support is available now. Call Lifeline on 131 114 or Kids Helpline on 1800 551 800. Visit ReachOut to get support to help you with everything from everyday issues through to tough times.)

However, it doesn’t mean you can’t still have some fun alone at home. If you can’t go to any parties, make the party come to you with Student Edge’s Self-Isolation playlist on Spotify.

Check out the tunes we've picked out below. (Don't forget, students get 50% off Spotify Premium, so hit the link for more details.)

  • Kick things off with Dua Lipa’s self-isolation anthem "Don’t Start Now".
  • Get psychedelic with Tame Impala’s breakout hit "Solitude is Bliss".
  • Demonstrate "Caution" with The Killers.
  • Take a leaf out of Earl Sweatshirt’s "Inside", from his aptly titled album I Don’t Like S***, I Don’t Go Outside; and listen as Rich Brian and Joji reflect on the life of an "Introvert".
  • Practice the "Cinnamon" dance as Hayley Williams describes living alone.
  • Let Billie Eilish, Julia Jacklin and Kanye West (what a trio!) explain why parties aren’t all they’re cracked up to be on "when the party’s over", "Pressure to Party" and "No More Parties in LA".
  • And let Raleigh Ritchie (AKA GoT's Grey Worm) and Tyler, the Creator outline the feeling of crawling up the walls with "Stay Inside" and "Boredom".
  • Clairo (“Closer to You”) and Selena Gomez ("Hands to Myself") are clearly gonna have a hard time keeping their distance from their partners during this time, but at least Lana Del Rey ("Video Games") can think of one way to distract herself.
  • Take a trip back in time with Akon’s "Lonely", before submitting to the rhythms of BENEE’s cheerfully distant "Find an Island".
  • Get that body moving with Robyn’s "Dancing On My Own", and, for those who can, take a leaf out of Fifth Harmony’s book with "Work from Home".
  • In case you get tempted to step outside, put RÜFÜS DU SOL’s "Innerbloom" on repeat. And when you start to get antsy, play "Losing It" by Fisher. Loud.
  • We pray you don’t go "SICKO MODE", but we’ve added it to the playlist just in case. And we’re thinking fondly of Thelma Plum, who tested positive for coronavirus but is now recovering. She’ll always be our "Homecoming Queen". And we shall stay home too!
  • Finally, what better way to wrap up a coronavirus-enforced party-of-one than with Taylor Swift’s "You Need to Calm Down"?
