The Internet Is Certain A New Taylor Swift Album Is Just Days Away (And The Evidence Is Convincing)

It’s easy to forget, given her recent headlines, that Taylor Swift is a popular recording artist, in addition to Hiddleston-heartbreaker, Snapchat victim, juror and potential clone.

Though it would be the apex of madness to suggest that Swift’s been keeping a low profile this year, she certainly defied expectations by neglecting to release a new single over the American summer.

Since her self-titled debut in 2006, she’s released albums every two years like clockwork, in either October or November. Usually, they’re preceded by a single several months earlier: “Shake It Off”, “We Are Never Getting Back Together” and “Mine” dropped in August, while “Love Story” arrived in September.

Given we are now in the middle of October 2016, you’d figure that we’re due.

There’s plenty of evidence out there to suggest she might pull a Beyoncé and unveil a surprise album in the coming days. After all, Gigi Hadid said Swift returned to the studio last month, and if we can’t take a Hadid’s word on Swift’s movements, who can we trust?

First, you have this Tweet:

Okay, it’s not exactly confirmation of a release date, but October 22 indeed marks the date of her first live show since her 1989 World Tour wrapped in December of 2015. Her return to the live stage will take place in friendly territory: at the Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. She has also booked one further gig: a pre-Super Bowl performance in February of 2017. No doubt, she’ll need to bring some new music to the latter, and, likely, has at least a new single in her pocket for the Austin show.

Twitter has thus concluded that Swift will drop an entire album’s worth of material on October 23 – the day after the Grand Prix.

Why October 23, specifically? For that, we must consult Twitter’s occult numerologists, who note that 13 is a significant figure for Swift:

The Ringer is taking the soothsaying a step further, predicting a victory for the San Francisco Giants in the National League Division Series as a result of Swift's supposedly imminent release. Their reasoning: “Swift’s last three albums, Speak Now in 2010, Red in 2012, and 1989 in 2014, arrived in October of their respective years, and were followed weeks later by the Giants winning their first, second, and third World Series since moving to San Francisco in 1957.”

It is hard to argue with this cosmic synchronicity. Unless… this has been the most intricate album tease in history?

Anyway, save the date: If the conspiracy theorists are right, there may be a new Taylor Swift album in ten days.

Or, she just trolls us and pulls a Frank Ocean. In that case, see you in 2018!

(Update: The Giants just lost their campaign to the Chicago Cubs, FYI. Now, anything goes.)
