How to Watch "Framing Britney Spears" in Australia

#FreeBritney.
If you have been on the internet at all over the past couple of days, you would have definitely seen at least one social media post about the documentary Framing Britney Spears.
So, if you've decided you can't avoid the chaos any longer and need to find out exactly what the doco is all about, you've come to the right place.
What is Framing Britney Spears about?
Framing Britney Spears is a new tell-all doco, which has been produced by The New York Times. It centres on the pop icon's rise and fall from fame, and follows the massive #FreeBritney movement that made headlines in 2020.
For those who aren't entirely familiar with the #FreeBritney movement or need a quick recap, Britney was put under conservatorship after her very public breakdown in 2008 (yes, the one where she shaved her head). At the time, Britney was put under a '5150 hold' in a psychiatric hospital for a mental health evaluation.
The singer's father, Jamie Spears, petitioned courts for an emergency 'temporary' conservatorship, claiming that Britney wasn't able to care for herself as a result of her mental health struggles. From there, he was given the legal right to make decisions regarding Britney's finances, health, business deals and personal life.
Basically, supporters of the #FreeBritney movement believe that she is allegedly unfairly being held in a conservatorship by her father.
"Her conservators decide whether or not she works, as she cannot enter into contracts for herself because she is legally not her own person. Britney Spears needs permission from her conservators to leave her house or spend any of her own money," the website FreeBritney.net points out.
With the movement growing so large and regular updates on Britney's court hearings being posted on social media, The New York Times decided to make a doco on it.
On top of the conservatorship, the documentary also explores the role the media played in Britney's downfall, along with her relationship with Justin Timberlake.
Okay, so how do I watch it in Australia?
Well, here's the thing: Framing Britney Spears isn't available to watch down under yet.
It was available to watch on YouTube for a short time, but it looks like all the copies have now been deleted.
At the moment, the doco is exclusively available for US viewers on Hulu. However, considering it has blown up the internet, it's likely a local streaming service will snatch it up fairly soon.
Just watched the “Framing Britney Spears” documentary and have to say, there is something VERY weird, very wrong going on. #FreeBritney 💔

Of course, it's difficult to know which streaming service that'll be. Hulu's previous films haven't always landed on the same platform. Little Monsters was released in cinemas before hitting Foxtel, Wounds came to Aussie Netflix, Palm Springs landed on Amazon Prime Video and Big Time Adolescence had no local distribution at all (but you can now rent or buy it on iTunes, Microsoft Store or Fetch TV).
Most of their television shows have been spread out between Stan, Foxtel and Amazon.
We've reached out to Netflix, Stan and Amazon for comment, but they haven't been able to confirm anything.
We'll be sure to keep you updated.
Update (24/02/21): According to TV Tonight, Framing Britney Spears will screen on 2 March at 9pm AEDT on the Nine Network after Married at First Sight.
