So, Turns Out Netflix Is Working on Its Own Britney Spears Documentary

It's reportedly being directed by Erin Lee Carr.

If you're still feeling a little agitated by the fact that there's no way to watch Framing Britney Spears in Australia yet, this news will hopefully cheer you up.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Netflix is reportedly working on their own Britney doco. According to Bloomberg, filmmaker Erin Lee Carr (How to Fix a Drug Scandal) is directing the project. Carr is a two-time Emmy nominated director known for exploring criminal justice, feminity and virality, so let's just say this'll be good.

Not a whole lot is known about the doco, but apparently it'll also look at Britney's life, career, and conservatorship.

If you're still wondering what on earth a conservatorship actually is, it's where a judge appoints a responsible person or organisation (called the 'conservator') to care for another adult (called the 'conservatee') who cannot care for himself or herself or manage his or her own finances.

Britney's father, Jamie Spears, petitioned courts for an emergency 'temporary' conservatorship, claiming that Britney was incapable of caring for herself following her very public breakdown in 2008.

Supporters of the #FreeBritney movement believe that the pop icon is allegedly unfairly being held in a conservatorship by her father.

As reported by Bloomberg, Carr was already working on the Netflix documentary before Hulu's New York Times-based production, and it hasn't been completed.

Carr's Netflix doco also doesn't have a release date, so it looks like we'll have to keep waiting for any Britney content. After all, Framing Britney Spears is only available for US viewers on Hulu, and it's not set to head to any streaming services down under yet.

This isn't the first time that Hulu and Netflix have been working on similar documentaries at the same time (remember their competing Fyre Festival docos?).

While the reviews for Framing Britney Spears have been relatively positive, some viewers wish it had delved deeper into the singer's conservatorship.

Well, we'll just have to keep patiently impatiently waiting for that Netflix doco.
