Here's What We Learned From That "Games of Thrones" S8 Finale Trailer

Hold on to your wigs, the Game of Thrones finale trailer has been unleashed.

The Game of Thrones trailer for Season 8 has dropped and sleuths all over the internet are getting out their digital magnifying glasses and detective notebooks to figure out what it all means.

In the trailer, we see shots of Winterfell's gloomy glacial terrain contrasted with the sunny (but sinister) plotting in King's Landing.

But with no sense of the timeline of these shots, it's any educated fool's guess what's about to go down.

Perhaps HBO wants to see us struggle to extract every shot and designate each with meaning only to uproot all our predictions and expectations. Perhaps, but that's not going stop us from doing it anyway. Here are some of the things we learnt from the two new minutes of footage.

For the love of the Lord of Light, if you haven't seen Season 7 yet, there will be **spoilers ahead**.

Arya's in trouble.

The trailer opens with Arya running through the halls of Winterfell, bloody-faced and filled with terror. Voiced over these distressing scenes is a much calmer Arya talking about how she knows death and his many faces. Considering Arya has been an absolute killing machine without much fear over the last few seasons, it's shocking to see her seemingly running for her life. Have the White Walkers taken over Winterfell? Has someone she knew well been turned into a Wight? Have those buried in the Winterfell crypts come to life? Or are the Faceless Men after Arya? We simultaneously need to know and never want to find out.

Of course, no one wants to see the Girl Who Has No Name fail...

...but it seems she'll finally get her due.

Thankfully, the trailer also hints that Arya crosses off some pretty important death bucket list items. After the traumatising opening scenes, we see Arya hold a dagger made of dragon glass up to someone she seems to be threatening. Now, that's the menacing Arya we've come to know and adore.

Later on, she's also seen in a fiery battle scene wielding a spear. Interestingly, other scenes in the trailer suggest that Jamie Lannister and The Hound are at the same battle as Arya and seem to be fighting alongside her. Does that mean she's delaying her kill list until the White Walker threat is overcome?

Cersei is still scheming (and drinking wine).

There's a cut to sunny King's Landing, which is a bit of relief from the gray gloom of the North. We see that Cersei is still smirking while resident Evil Guy and Hand of the Queen, Qyburn, is probably whispering sweet nothings in her.

Bran's conversation with Sam Tarly, which is voiced over the scenes, raises more questions

"Everything you did put you where you are now," Bran says as it shows a smug Cersei: "Where you belong."

Later in the trailer, Jon Snow is apparently talking about the White Walkers when he says, "Our enemy doesn't tire, doesn't stop, doesn't feel," but the trailer cuts to Cersei's face, not the Night King. While she's seen with tears in her eyes as she takes a sip of her wine, it's probably no mistake that Jon's words and a shot of a bloodied Jamie in battle, screaming, is just preceding it.

Could it be bad news for Jamie? Why is Cersei so chill about the imminent threat? Is she still pregnant with Jamie's child or was that all a hoax?

Sansa's chances are looking slim.

As much as we want Sansa, the rightful heir to Winterfell, to survive and thrive, we just don't think it's going to happen.

In much of the trailer, Sansa stares, wordlessly, as Jon and Daenerys march the army and their dragons to fight the White Walkers. She's been through a lot and has proven she's just as witty as Cersei but as Game of Thrones tells us time and time again, goodish guys and gals finish last.

Tormund is alive!

At the end of Season Seven, the White Walkers' new dragon pet tore down a section of the wall and Tormund, Lord Beric Dondarrion and Dolorous Edd were seen scrambling to survive the collapse.

The trailer shows their fate, as they're seen walking, pretty casually, through stoned halls. Does this mean the White Walkers haven't caught up to them or have they stumbled on a hidden area?

Varys... looks concerned.

Varys, the spymaster with an impressive network of "birds", is in the crypt of Winterfell along with (assumedly) the townsfolk of the castle. As Arya says she's seen death and his many faces, a very concerned Varys looks off into the distance.

Unsettling.

Think your faves will survive in the end and you'll sleep happy knowing Westeros is safe from the frosty threat? Just remember Ramsay Bolton's fourth wall-shattering quote.

Shiver until Season Eight is out on Foxtel Now and Fox Showcase in Australia on Monday 15 April.
