#HerStoryOurStory: Google Doodle Celebrates International Women’s Day With 12 Comics

Twelve female artists have taken over Google’s homepage to mark International Women’s Day.

Each artist has been given space for their own Google Doodle, though it feels a little inaccurate (and, let’s face it, gendered) to just call them ‘doodles’.

That’s because each ‘doodle’ is actually a multi-panel comic, displaying a variety of voices and styles from around the globe.

There’s the trans romance "Love" by Laerte; Anna Haifisch’s Berlin Wall remembrance "Nov 1989"; the transporting "On the Roof" by Kaveri Gopalakrishnan; and "Ntsoaki’s Victory" by Karabo Poppy, about a young woman destined to live "counterculturally", to name only a third of the stories shared.

"While each artist tells a unique story, the themes are universal, reminding us of how much we often have in common," explains Lydia Nichols & Alyssa Winans, Google Doodlers & IWD 2018 Project Leads.

To back that up, Google has translated the comics across more than 80 languages for its global audience.

It doesn’t end there, either: Google wants "storytellers of all kinds" to share their own tale "about a moment, person, or event that has impacted their lives as women" with the hashtag #HerStoryOurStory.
