Inspiring Gals Are Everywhere So Here's Their Advice This International Women's Day

Happy International Women’s Day fierce females!

In case you didn't know, 8 March is International Women's Day – a chance for us to come together and celebrate the achievements of women and continue to take action towards equality.

Plus, in 2022, we're being asked to raise awareness against bias for this year's theme #BreakTheBias.

Together, we can make a truly positive difference for woman all around the world and create a more inclusive, diverse and equitable place.

Inspiring women are everywhere and we've got plenty in the Student Edge team raising their voices and forging pathways for others to follow.

So, this International Women's Day, we asked them for their best nuggets of life and career advice.

Bianca, Head of Memberships

"Be strong, be confident, try and have a voice or be heard. Listen, let others have a voice and understand different points of view. Encourage and motivate, and build strong relationships with others through empathy."

Teri, Writer and Content Producer

"When I spoke to the incredible Zahra Al Hilaly for our latest series article, we bonded over the fact that, as women, we default to questioning our voices. Even Zahra found herself thinking 'why me?' when she was asked to be on the pages of Vogue Australia. I think I want to mirror her words a bit and say that we need to stop questioning our existence. Every single person has a unique and valuable perspective. The minute we can stop saying sorry for everything, taking out all the 'justs' in our emails and affirming our existence instead of questioning it, will be a big moment, and I'm still working towards it!

I also can't stress enough the importance of building up other females around you. Support and encouragement is a game changer in every career!"

Toni, Research Director

"Educate yourself on Imposter Syndrome! So many young women are limited by their own negative thoughts and beliefs and we should believe in ourselves and our abilities more!"

Clarissa, Digital Marketing Assistant

"If you're going to be judged by whatever you do, at least make choices that are fulfilling to you. Speak up. Be overdressed. State your opinions (respectfully). Shamelessly enjoy your hobbies, feminine or not. Wear a clown outfit to a rave. Anyone who's offended by these innocent things I'd rather not be involved with anyways (fair enough if you have a phobia though)."

Amy, Product Marketing Manager

"Always remember you are smart enough, you are strong enough, you are pretty enough – you are enough. Tell yourself this everyday until you believe it, and start seeing the benefits."

Laurette, Head of Client Services

"As a woman in business, I wish someone had educated me more about Imposter Syndrome. It was a tough lesson I had to learn myself and, in the end, I learnt that if you walk into a meeting not feeling confident, there’s at least half the attendees who feel the same way. All we can do in life is show up, speak up and, in the famous words of Rihanna, 'pretend'."

Anica, Writer and Content Producer

"In university, I chose to follow my passion of creative writing and literature despite pretty much everyone around me saying it wouldn't get me a job. After graduating, I discovered that the critical skills my degree gave me could grant me access to jobs across dozens of industries – journalism, marketing, copywriting, publishing, you name it! STEM is increasingly encouraged for women, but there's also something to be said about following your passion and what you're interested in and having the confidence to know that you can go anywhere! A man who pursues a passion is often labelled as bold. A woman can be seen as whimsical and naive. Don't be limited by what people say you can and can't do. Just do what makes you happy!"

Juliet, Partnerships Manager

"I heard Sydney Sweeney say in an interview 'If you don't feel like there is currently space for you, create your own space.' and I loved that."

So, make sure you shout out an inspirational gal in your life today (and every day) and do what you can to #BreakTheBias.
