Get Ready Gamers – The Next Year is Stacked With New Titles

From AAA titles to wholesome indie games, here’s what’s on our wishlist.

The video games industry continues to boom, with recent reports from the International Games and Entertainment Association sales data revealing Aussies spent $4.21 billion across hardware, software and peripherals in 2022.

Whoa.

Over the past week, there’s been a ton of game announcements coming from the Summer Games Fest, Xbox Games Showcase, Ubisoft Forward, the Wholesome Direct and more.

We’ve highlighted some of our faves that you should keep an eye out for.

Spider-Man 2.

We finally have a release date – Spider-Man 2 is releasing October 20 and we cannot wait.

The sequel to the popular 2018 Marvel’s Spider-Man and 2020’s Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, we’ll see Peter and Miles take on Venom, Lizard and Kraven.

PlayStation have announced several editions of the game (including a Collector’s Edition with a 19-inch statue!).

The game will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and will be available to preorder tomorrow – if you’re after a physical copy, so far, we’ve seen EB Games confirm their preorders will be live at 10AM AEST.

Star Wars Outlaws.

The first-ever open world Star Wars game is on the horizon from Ubisoft Massive, set to release in 2024.

We remember when it was announced back in 2021!

The game is set between Episode V and VI, in an original story led by scoundrel Kay Vess, and her adorable companion Nix.

Starfield.

Bethesda’s next highly anticipated game Starfield releases September 6 – this new universe has been in the making for 25 years.

Bethesda Game Studios are the same team behind The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4, so get ready for some awesome storytelling and adventure across a thousand planets.

And because it’s a Bethesda game, it’s coming day one to Game Pass – a massive win for Game Pass subscribers!

Assassin’s Creed: Mirage

The open-world style of the past few Assassin’s Creed titles are taking a backseat - get excited for this title releasing October 12.

Assassin’s Creed: Mirage – set in ninth century Baghdad - goes back to the franchise’s traditional style gameplay.

In an interview with Gamespot, Mirage is described by the art director Jean-Luc Sala as a ‘condensed experience’ and a ‘more focused game’, in a similar size to the franchise’s previous titles like Rogue or Revelations.

…We couldn’t pick just one game from the Wholesome Direct.

With the weather getting colder, there’s no better time to get cosy with some wholesome games, and boy, there were heaps announced recently!

Here’s some of the (many) games we’re looking forward to:

  • Fishbowl: a slice of life, coming of age story that will no doubt have us in all the feels.
  • Smushi Come Home: a new release where you play as a tiny lil mushroom.
  • Mineko’s Night Market: a game about ‘crafting crafts, eating eats’ and… ‘catting cats’?
  • Loftia: a cosy, solarpunk MMO all about creating a sustainable world.

Check out the full wrap-ups of the games showcased at the Wholesome Direct, Xbox Showcase, Ubisoft Direct and Summer Games Fest.

There are so many more games we haven’t even had time to mention like Mortal Kombat 1, Avowed, Fable, Forza Motorsport, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora… (just to name a few!)

My bank account is crying RN.
