Ubisoft and Lucasfilm Games Are Developing An Open World "Star Wars" Game

The force is strong with this one.

Lucasfilm Games is currently on a roll with announcing new games left, right and centre.

After yesterday’s announcement for an Indiana Jones game, they’ve given gamers another treat by revealing that they’re working with Ubisoft to create a new open world Star Wars game.

In two separate announcements on Twitter, both Ubisoft and Lucasfilm games exclaimed how excited they are to let fans know about the new game.

So far, the game is in early development so it’s unlikely that we’ll get even a hint of it for the next few years.

Boy, these game developers really do love to tease.

In the official announcement on Ubisoft’s website, the developers went into more detail about what fun technology and advancements the game might include.

"Development on the project will be led by Massive Entertainment whose expertise and talent will be used to create a story-driven, open world experience within the Star Wars galaxy that will also utilize the studio’s cutting-edge technology and advancements, including the Snowdrop engine," they said in a statement.

Creative Director at Ubisoft Julian Gerighty detailed that the new game will be a story-driven, open world game and there are plans to introduce a unique storyline that the Star Wars franchise hasn’t yet explored.

“We want to make it a unique game in the saga with a captivating story and set of characters that players can relate to and connect with,"Julian Gerighty said in a statement.

"We want to take what is familiar and resonant about Star Wars and tell the stories of new characters who have their own motivations and stakes."

The new announcement doesn’t, however, give any clarity into what is going to happen with EA’s exclusive Star Wars partnership that is supposed to end in 2023. But if the new game isn’t ready until then, they may be able to get around it.

Ubisoft is also currently in the process of making an Avatar game so Massive Entertainment and Lucasfilm games have some pretty high stakes to meet over the next few years.
