"Fortnite" Has Officially Caused at Least 200 Divorces

Who knows how many break-ups, too?
Fortnite is causing couples in the U.K. to choose between a lifetime of love and companionship and the immediate pleasure of parachuting into a digital killzone.
And at least 200 of those couples have chosen the killzone.
According to a recent report by Divorce Online—a site that allows those in the United Kingdom to complete divorce filing onlines—200 divorce petitions since 1 January 2018 have cited Fortnite "and other online games" as the reason for their marital disintegration.
A spokesperson for the company says that equates to roughly five per cent of the petitions they’ve handled this year. That's not nothing!
"Addiction to drugs, alcohol and gambling have often been cited as reasons for relationship breakdowns but the dawn of the digital revolution has introduced new addictions," they added in a statement.
"These now include online pornography, online gaming and social media, so it is no surprise to us that more and more people are having relationship problems because of our digital addictions."
So, even if you’re not worried about Fortnite ruining your marriage—because, you know, you’re not married yet, duh!—remember that Fortnite addition is real. In fact, gaming disorders are now officially recognised by the World Health Organisation. So, play responsibly—and let these other articles act as cautionary tales.
