Everything You Need to Know About the PS5

And all the new games being released.

That’s right, it’s finally here! After months of speculation and excitement, Sony has just released all the important info you’ve been dying to know about the PS5 in a launch event held online this morning.

At the event Sony announced to fans the set price of both PlayStation 5 consoles, its release date and a look at some of the new games coming to the system in 2020.

If you missed the event, you can watch the nearly hour long showcase here.

While the new console is pricey, don’t stress, as it’s not going to be as expensive as that literal gold console that Truly Exquisite is selling for $10k. The system is priced at $AUD749.95 for the original (with the disc drive) and $5AUD99.95 for the digital edition (with no disc drive).

The system will be available from 12 November in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Mexico and the US, and from 19 November for the rest of the world, but pre-orders have already been made available from EB Games and JB HI-FI. Just in time for Christmas (hint hint).

Despite EB Games' strict limit of one console per customer, the pre-order stock has already been exhausted, so you better start thinking about your game plan on the launch day.

Sony also announced a new addition to their subscription service PlayStationPlus that gives PS5 owners access to 18 of the best PS4 games for free with their existing PlayStation.Plus subscription. If you’ve already got most of your PS4 games on disk, the majority of them should be backwards compatible with the new console, so no money wasted!

The announcement of the consoles specs comes just two days after the release of details for Microsoft’s new console, Xbox Series X. So as usual, these two are in fierce competition.

So, what games are being released?

Some of 2020’s most highly anticipated games came with this drop, including;

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Final Fantasy 16

Hogwarts Legacy

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Sony has also confirmed: Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla

NBA 2K21

NBA 2K21 Mamba Forever Edition

Fortnight: Unreal Engine

Demon’s Souls

Oddworld: Soulstorm

Resident Evil Village

Deathloop

Most games are set to release at the end of the year or in early 2021, so at least Sony is doing its bit to try and save 2020.

Now that you’ve got all the details, you just have to decide which console you’re going to get your hands on: the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X (*cough* or both *cough*).
