Dudes Can’t Stop Covering Taylor Swift; Watch Her Dance With A 7-Year-Old Instead

Taylor Swift has finally met her match in 7-year-old Dylan Barnes, an enthusiastic young gent who recently danced along to “Shake It Off” on Ellen’s daytime talk show.

Instead of penning an attack song and instigating yet another beef, Tay-Tay joined Dylan for a rousing rendition of “Shake It Off” in Kansas.

The resulting video of these two pop culture giants shaking within close proximity of one another is delightful.

(That is, so long as it isn’t secretly a dance-off, in which the loser will be forced to retire from dancing permanently. This is truly the Highlander of our time.)

The clip comes during a remarkably weird month for Swift; a month in which she's being inundated with love letters – in the form of cover songs – from the alt-music community.

Ryan Adams’ actually-very-good album-length tribute to Taylor Swift’s 1989 arrived on Monday, closely followed by Father John Misty’s Velvet Underground-inspired takes on “Welcome to New York” and “Blank Space”.

Clearly, white dudes love singing Swift’s songs. (I can back that up with some personal, concrete evidence.)

Let's not forget this was all kicked-off earlier in the year with Vance Joy's trendsetting cover of "I Know Places".

While Adams’ and Father John’s reinterpretations are pretty spectacular, a quick YouTube search uncovers plenty more... erm, less accomplished cover versions.

Why is this a trend? Don't these guys know it's perfectly fine to like and listen to Taylor Swift's musical confections without having to refract it through their dude-prisms? Or, is this just their way of showing their respect to music's reigning pop queen?

Eh, maybe they just want YouTube hits based on Swift's reflected glory. If you’re curious, have a listen below. Then cleanse your palette by watching the “Shake It Off” video again. Remember, Highlander-style, there can only be one Taylor Swift. And it’s Taylor Swift.
