Drake Was The Most Streamed Artist On Spotify This Year

Spotify has released their list of the most streamed songs and artists of 2015, though one mighty asterisk hangs above each of their declarations…

… and she looks a little something like this:

Swift famously shunned Spotify at the end of 2014, despite the company’s pleas to let them feature her album 1989 for the listening pleasure of subscribers. She retaliated by pulling all her albums from the service. (You can find all her gear on Apple Music instead.)

So, taking the title of Most Streamed Artist of 2015 is Drake (funnily enough, one of Apple Music’s most vocal supporters and DJ for Beats 1 Radio). Still, you can’t say he didn’t earn it, what with his late-year domination of the internet, courtesy of “Hotline Bling”.

Drizzy was also, obviously, the Most Streamed Male Artist of 2015. Rihanna was the Most Streamed Female of the Year.

The Most Streamed Song of 2015 was inevitable Hottest 100 victor “Lean On” by Major Lazer, feat. MØ and DJ Snake. The Most Streamed Album of 2015 was The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness.

Sia was the most popular Aussie artist, globally, followed by 5 Seconds of Summer and Iggy Azalea.

Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran was declared Spotify’s Most Streamed Artist of All Time! And by ‘All Time’, they mean since 2006, when the company was founded.

Next year, expect Adele to take all of these titles. (Except Sia’s, of course. She may dominate every possible aspect of the music industry, but she’ll always be an adorably cockney Londoner.)
