Did “The Office” Inspire Billie Eilish’s “everything i wanted” Music Video?

Fans have made the connection.
Earlier today, Billie Eilish released her self-directed music video for "everything i wanted", the highly personal debut track off her sophomore album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?.
It’s the second music video the unapologetically moody teen has directed, having also helmed "xanny" shortly before she turned 18.
If you haven’t caught the video yet, you should probably do that now. Also, make sure you turn your screen brightness up. It’s almost as dark as Game of Thrones' "The Long Night".
The video isn’t quite as freaky as "bad guy" but it’s just as dramatic. It opens with a cute message about her older brother/producer Finneas O'Connell, and follows the pair as they drive through downtown Los Angeles at night-time.
Things escalate from there, as Billie and Finneas drive straight into the ocean. "I tried to scream, but my head was underwater," Billie sings as the car begins to submerge. Not even attempting to escape the vehicle, the two hold hands and smile at one another.
It’s, uh, pretty gloomy.

So, what does the music video mean exactly?
"My brother and I wrote this song about each other and I wanted to create a visual that emphasizes that no matter what, we’ll be there for each other through everything," the singer said in an official statement.
With this in mind, it make sense that it’s representative of the sibling’s relationship, and their commitment to being there for one another until the very end.
However, fans think it’s possible that Billie might have also drawn inspiration from The Office.
Taking to Twitter, one user pointed out that the music video is similar to the scene in Season 4 where Michael drives his car into the lake with Dwight.
Honestly, it does not seem too far a stretch, especially considering Billie has proved that she’s a massive fan of the series. In the past, Billboard even sent Rainn Wilson to her house to quiz her on the show, and she admitted she’s watched it 12 times.
Plus, she decided to sample the Season 7 episode "Threat Level Midnight" four times on her track "my strange addiction".
Although it’s not clear whether the similarities were intentional, we’d definitely be up for some more content inspired by The Office from Billie.
