“Cyberpunk 2077” Requires a Huge Update Before You Play

The early reviews have arrived.
One of the most highly anticipated games of 2020 (and the last few years if we’re being honest), Cyberpunk 2077, is finally just days away from being released on our consoles, PCs and Stadia.

While the excitement for this release is huge, it also seems like a lot of people have already made up their minds about the game and discovered some bitter news about how it’s going to go when you try to play it for the first time.
As we already know all too well, Cyberpunk 2077 was delayed a staggering three times. While COVID was a pretty common excuse for most major delays for movies and games in 2020, CD Projekt Red seemed to have just been behind in production.
Now, right as we’re all just about to download and unlock the game before release, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the game will require some hefty updates before being played.
Those who were lucky enough to begin downloading the already massive game (at 70gb) were disappointed to find a 43.5gb monster update in their tracks.
What a big boi.

The update alone is bigger than the size of most games on their own. But as with any game release, patches are normal—especially for games of this size.
Considering the anticipation for Cyberpunk 2077 it makes sense that they’ll want to fix any major bugs ASAP, which we still expect to see over the coming weeks as players discover the ins and outs of the game.
It’s not yet clear what the update does or what it contains but with a file size that big, I’m gonna bet that it’s important.
After players turned to Twitter to reveal the update, CD Projekt Red developer Febian Mario Dohla replied in the comments, explaining that this isn’t actually the game’s day one patch. This means even more bulky downloads will likely be required at launch.
It’s an update but - fun twist - not the update we’ll have for launch. 😅

Not only have we discovered the news about the endless updates, but as of today, critics have spilled the tea on what the game is really like, as well as giving it some cheeky ratings.
Most critics have awarded the game an outstanding pass mark, with Gamesradar+ giving away 5/5 and IGN giving out a 9/10 (GameSpot handed out a 7/10, so they can’t sit with us).
Review: "Cyberpunk 2077" feels like the messy and inevitable evolution of open-world design, @genepark writes.

These early impressions come with many caveats. For one, the game is boiling over with glitches. https://t.co/NQJwdauWUm
Cyberpunk 2077 offers a staggering amount of choice in how to build your character, approach quests, and confront enemies - though the main quest may be shorter than expected when taken on its own.

Hopefully these massive updates don't impact the game's reviews or experience too much.
Regardless of reviews, it’s likely that the game is going to sell out pretty quickly and make some serious waves in the gaming community for years to come.
