“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” Star Stephanie Beatriz Announces Her First Pregnancy

She is expecting with her husband Brad Hoss.

We all know Stephanie Beatriz for her quirky and eccentric role as Detective Rosa Diaz in the comedy detective series Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Now the beloved actress is embarking on a new journey, announcing that her and her husband, marketing director Brad Hoss, are expecting their first child.

This is the adorable news we needed to end the week.

The pair announced the exciting news on Beatriz’s Instagram in collaboration with People Magazine as a post for their “chosen family” in celebration of Pride Month.

“Mom and Dad (for real tho),” Beatriz wrote.

“PEOPLE’s Pride Issue is on newsstands nationwide Friday!! In it, we talk about our expanding and chosen family #pride #pridemonth #pride.”

Beatriz told People Magazine that after coming out as bisexual in university, she never expected to settle down and have kids.

"I didn't think that a committed partnership was really for me," she told the publication.

"I couldn't really see kids, it wasn't that I was closed off to it. It was more that I couldn't quite see how a baby fit into the life that I was building."

However, since meeting her husband Hoss and then marrying him in 2018, she explained that her relationship with him is “extremely empathetic and open," and doesn’t make her “any less queer.”

We love that for her.

When talking about her new baby, Beatriz spoke on how she and her husband are committed to raising a child who understands and values equality, which is such an important message this month.

"I think one of the best things you can do is raise a kid who understands that however a person chooses to shape their one glorious life is worthy of celebration,” she told People.

She also told the publication how she is thankful for her experience working on the set and with the cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, as it played a huge role in shaping who she is today.

"I never would've gotten to the place where I would've even been open to Brad as a partner if it hadn't been for my time on Brooklyn Nine-Nine," she explained to People.

"All of my friends on that show have just taught me so much about myself, the experience of being on that show has taught me so much about myself as a human being."

While Beatriz is the most known for her role in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, she is set to appear on our screens again later this month in the highly anticipated musical In the Heights, where she plays a spirited hairdresser in a lesbian relationship with the salon owner.

"What was so gratifying to me as a person who is queer is to see this relationship in the film be part of the fabric of the community and to be normal, and be happy and functioning, and part of the quilt they’ve all created,” she told Playbill.

"So much of this film is about where home is and who home is to you. And for Carla, Daniela is home. Wherever Daniela is, that’s where Carla feels at home."

In the Heights is due to land in Aussie cinemas on 24 June.
