Brendan Fraser Says "Me Too" As Well, Explaining Why He's Been Low-Key for 15 Years

Trigger Warning: This article discusses sexual assault.
For a while now, fans of movies like (OG) The Mummy and George of the Jungle have been asking where beloved '90s actor Brendan Fraser has been all this time.
Not that critical acclaim is the be-all and end-all for actors, but Fraser hasn't starred in a film that's received more than 50 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes since 2008's Journey to the Center of the World.

That was his last box office hit, too.
But it turns out, there's a much darker, tragic reason behind his absence.
In an interview with GQ, Fraser explains he too has been a victim of abuse at the hands of Hollywood's powerful men.
He alleged that Philip Berk, the former president of Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), had groped him at a function in 2003.
While Berk maintains it was just "a pinch" on Fraser's behind, Fraser describes a more serious incident.
"His left hand reaches around, grabs my ass cheek, and one of his fingers touches me in the taint," Fraser told GQ. "He starts moving it around."
Fraser was able to remove Berk's hand from him but admitted that he felt ill and like he was going to cry.
"Am I still frightened? Absolutely. Do I feel like I need to say something? Absolutely. Have I wanted to many, many times? Absolutely. Have I stopped myself? Absolutely," Fraser said.
After the incident, Fraser asked for an apology from Berk as well as the HFPA and was sent one in which Berk denied any wrongdoing.
While Fraser isn't sure the HFPA blacklisted him, he wonders if this incident hurt his career after multiple invitation snubs to awards shows. Berk, however, claims Fraser's "career declined through no fault of ours."
Fraser went on to explain that he faced depression and self-doubt in his career and, after subsequent poorly-received roles, he felt his career was on the rocks.
"The phone does stop ringing in your career, and you start asking yourself why. There [are] many reasons, but was this one of them? I think it was."
Luckily for Fraser, his career might be facing a revival of sorts. He's about to star in upcoming FX series, Trust, which is based on the real-life kidnapping of John Paul Getty III, the son of an oil tycoon. Maybe you remember it being covered in All the Money in the World?)
Hopefully, this means good things for Fraser. We miss him.
