Angourie Rice Tells Us How She Went From Student Films to Spider-Man

“I definitely felt pulled in all these different directions.”
Angourie Rice is a versatile queen. From Jasper Jones to being the iconic Daily Bugle Intern in Spider-Man—we caught up with her to chat about how she got to where she is now, and how you can get there too.
She got her start in short films for university students.
Her humble career began in Perth, where she lived for five years. Her parents were in theatre, and the city had a close network of people in the industry.
Angourie told us about the perks of being a child actor in between shots. "I was just sitting there eating jellybeans having the time of my life!”
She's been honoured on Variety's "Actors to Watch" list of 2021.
Alongside previous honorees including Timothée Chalamet and Bree Larson, Angourie landed the prestigious accolade this year, and she's super hyped.
“I feel so overwhelmed and grateful to be listed among some incredible, talented artists who I really admire.”
She's a bookworm and master of the knitting needles.
With an addictive podcast all about books and a flourishing knitting career to her name, we asked Angourie how to decide what path to follow as a young person, especially if you have many different interests.
“I also grew up dancing and singing, and I’ve always loved music, and I also always loved reading and writing. Oh my god, I would write so many stories when I was a kid.
"So I definitely felt pulled in all these different directions, like, ‘I don’t know what I wanna be! Do I wanna be a popstar, do I wanna be an author, I don’t know!’
“I highly encourage everyone to just follow whatever they want, and it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t match up with other things, or if it’s different, or if people discourage you.”
She ain't spoiling anything for anyone.
In terms of Marvel spoilers, Angourie reckons you’ll just have to wait to see everything for yourself when Spider-Man: No Way Home hits Australian cinemas tomorrow.
“I hope I haven’t unintentionally spoiled anything!”
