YouTuber Pleads Guilty After Fatally Shooting Boyfriend In Video Stunt Gone Wrong

The YouTuber who fatally shot her boyfriend in an online stunt gone wrong has pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter.

According to the New York Times, 20-year-old Monalisa Perez of Minnesota entered her guilty plea last Friday, in a potential plea agreement that could result in 180 days of jail and 10 years of supervised probation. Those days will be served in 30-day stints for the next three years, followed by six months of at-home monitoring.

She was facing 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $20,000 if she had been found guilty at trial.

The Pioneer Press says, however, the final sentence will come down to a judge.

Back in June, the then-19-year-old Perez fired a gun at her partner, Pedro Ruiz III, age 22.

He was holding an encyclopaedia against his chest for the stunt, which was performed in front of about 30 neighbours and their three-year-old child. They both expected the book to halt the bullet.

But the bullet pierced the entirety of the book, striking Ruiz in the chest and fatally wounding him.

The couple were trying to get YouTube famous and dedicated their YouTube channel, La MonaLisa, to showcasing "the real life of a young couple who happen to be teen parents."

Since the incident, Monalisa has given birth to their second baby.

She is expected to be sentenced in February.
