In Death, Mac Miller Breaks a Personal Record on the ARIA Charts

Just days after his death, Mac Miller gets his biggest ever week on the Aussie charts.

Mac Miller’s final album, Swimming, has returned to Australia’s ARIA Music Charts, placing at #7.

It follows his unexpected death on 7 September. The 26-year-old rapper passed away from an apparent drug overdose.

Unsurprisingly, Miller’s death has reignited interest in his music, with fans no doubt streaming or buying Swimming as a response (and new fans discovering his music as a result of the tragic circumstances).

His return to the charts marks a personal best, and his first appearance in ARIA’s Top 10. Swimming, which dropped in early August, initially debuted at #21 before dropping out of the Top 50.

According to ARIA, his only other charting albums were The Divine Feminine (which made it to #13 in September of 2016) and GO:OD AM (which peaked at #32 in September of 2015).

His only appearance on the singles chart was as a featured artist on Ariana Grande’s "The Way" in 2013 (it topped out at #37).

Grande, who dated Miller for two years until early 2018, posted a tribute to her ex on Instagram over the weekend.

“I’m so sorry i couldn’t fix or take your pain away,” she wrote.

Grande's latest album, Sweetener, also jumped one place on the ARIA Charts this week, rising to #3.
