You Ready For This? "You" Season 2 Arrives on Netflix This Boxing Day

Are you talking You 2 to me?

We first asked when the second season of You would land on Netflix back in January.

All these months later, we finally have an answer.

Thanks to a newly-released poster for You S2 (or "You 2" as they’re calling it), we know Netflix will drop the latest stalkery antics of Penn Badgley’s Joe on 26 December 2019.

See for yourself.

Though most Aussies discovered the show on Netflix, Season 2 is actually the show’s "first" as a proper Netflix Original.

Season 1, based on a book by Caroline Kepnes, was actually produced and aired week-by-week on the Lifetime network in the United States. But then, after Lifetime ordered a second season of You ahead of its debut, it sold the premiere rights to Netflix on account of S1’s low ratings on tele in the States. Netflix were happy to buy it, given that 40 million members watched You S1 in its first four weeks on the service. That’s why S2 will be a true all-episodes-at-once 'Netflix Original' global experience.

The question is, what does S2 hold?

Spoilers ahead.

The first season of You capitalised on Badgley’s brilliantly twisted, layered and disturbingly funny performance as Joe, a bookseller in New York City who fancied himself a romantic, but was actually a depraved stalker with a murderous streak (despite his regular claims that he’s "not a killer").

Joe, the ultimate unreliable narrator, documented his, ahem, courtship of Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail), culminating in the final episode revelation (seriously, spoilers coming) that he killed her after she discovered his creepy ways. (Or did he?) Season One then closed with the surprise arrival of Joe’s ex, Candace (Ambyr Childers), who we also thought he'd murdered.

End of spoilers.

Co-showrunner Sara Gamble has said S2 will "diverge a little bit" from Kepnes’ second book in the series, Hidden Bodies. However, it’s been confirmed that Joe will move to Los Angeles for his next go around. Also, Gamble says, "Candace does indeed have a role in season two."

So will The Haunting of Hill House’s Victoria Pedretti, who joins the cast as "Love Quinn", a would-be chef working at a Los Angeles grocery store. No doubt she catches the eye of Badgley’s stalker Joe when he moves there from New York.

We’ll find out for sure when this clever little satire on toxic masculinity lands on Netflix this Boxing Day!
