XXXTentacion Is Dead at 20

Controversial chart-topping rapper XXXTentacion has died at 20, following a shooting in South Florida.

XXXTentacion (real name Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy) was pronounced dead in hospital today after he was shot outside a motorcycle dealership in Miami.

He was reportedly confronted by two suspects in what’s being called an armed robbery by Broward County sheriff’s department, CNN reports.

It marks a violent end to a short and scandal-ridden career.

Onfroy first earned widespread notoriety in 2016, when his Soundcloud track "Look at Me!" became a viral hit while he was serving time in prison for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.

Though he was released from jail after posting bail later that same year, he was arrested again and charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment and witness tampering, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Spotify briefly removed his music from their playlists this year, as part of its Hate Content & Hateful Conduct policy, but they restored his single "SAD!" to RapCaviar when it became apparent other artists were planning to boycott the streaming service.

XXXTentacion’s final album, ?, debuted at #1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 albums chart. It peaked at #13 on the ARIA Albums Chart.
