Who Will Make the Better Princess Di: Emma Corrin, Kristen Stewart or Elizabeth Debicki?

Who Will Make the Better Princess Di: Emma Corrin, Kristen Stewart or Elizabeth Debicki?

The three actresses are all set to portray the royal.

It is no secret that acting is a pretty tough gig, but it gets way more challenging when an actor or actress is tasked with playing a famous individual.

There is simply way more pressure when portraying someone viewers already know and love. Will the performer try to mimic their mannerisms or master their accent? If they get it wrong, will they be cancelled by audiences?

There's a lot to consider, so you can imagine that actresses Emma Corrin, Kristen Stewart and Elizabeth Debicki are probably feeling a tad stressed about playing one of the most iconic women ever: Princess Diana.

Corrin and Debicki are both set to star as Princess Diana in Netflix's The Crown. Corrin will play the royal in Season 4, while Debicki will step in for Seasons 5 and 6.

On the other hand, Stewart has been cast as the Princess of Wales in the film Spencer, which covers a critical weekend in the early '90s, when Diana decided her marriage to Prince Charles wasn't working.

With all three actresses gearing up to play the royal, we can't help but wonder which star's performance Princess Diana's fans will like the most.

Let's take a guess.

Emma Corrin

Corrin, who will play Princess Diana in Season 4 of The Crown, will begin by dramatising the royal's failed marriage to Prince Charles during the years of Margaret Thatcher's government.

The 24-year-old British actress is a newcomer to the industry. In fact, she hasn't even got that many acting credits to her name.

Although, that means she must have really impressed casting directors in her audition for The Crown.

The show's creator, Peter Morgan, said in a press release, "Emma is a brilliant talent who immediately captivated us when she came in for the part of Diana Spencer."

He added, "As well as having the innocence and beauty of a young Diana, she also has, in abundance, the range and complexity to portray an extraordinary woman who went from anonymous teenager to becoming the most iconic woman of her generation."

Well, it looks like fans should expect a breakout performance from Corrin, and perhaps even an Emmy nomination.

From early photos, Corrin also looks strikingly similar to Princess Di.

Kristen Stewart

When it was announced that Stewart would be playing Princess Diana in the movie Spencer, which is being helmed by Pablo Larrain, the casting decision divided social media.

Some people simply called it a "terrible choice".

Others have faith that Stewart will bring something unexpected to her portrayal of Diana.

Of course, it's important to remember that Bella Swan from Twilight isn't the only character that Stewart has played. Throughout her career, she has given versatile performances in films including Certain Women, Clouds of Sils Maria and Still Alice.

As reported by Deadline, Larrain said Stewart can be "very mysterious and very fragile and ultimately very strong as well."

So, it's entirely possible Stewart will bring something completely unexpected to the role.

Elizabeth Debicki

Earlier today, it was revealed that Debicki will play the Princess of Wales in the two final seasons of The Crown.

So far, the decision has been well-received on social media.

You have probably seen the Australian actress in The Great Gatsby, The Night Manager or The Kettering Incident.

In terms of appearance, Debicki is 1.90 metres tall compared with Diana's 1.78 stature. Out of all the actresses, Corrin is the closest to the princess' height at 1.75 metres tall.

Despite that, Debicki appears to have a deep understanding of the impact Princess Di had on the world.

"Princess Diana's spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many," Debicki wrote on Twitter.

It is pretty much guaranteed that Debicki will give a knockout performance. After all, she's won the AACTA Award for Best Supporting Actress for her roles in The Great Gatsby and The Kettering Incident.

Now, people are predicting that she'll win the Emmy for her portrayal of Princess Di.

So, which actress will give the best performance?

It's difficult to compare such different actresses, and we're sure that each of them will bring something entirely unique to the role.

However, we did set out to choose just one...

Well, we love to see an underdog succeed, so we're going to put our money on Corrin.

No one knows what to expect from her, so we're betting she'll exceed everyone's expectations.
