What’s in the "Expanded and Enhanced" Version of "GTA V" for PS5?

Here we go again. Again.

The PlayStation 5 was officially unveiled last week, and there was much rejoicing (and meme-ing).

But even those who had to laugh at the design of the new PS5 still celebrated its proposed releases, including launch title Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the upcoming sequels Gran Turismo 7 and Resident Evil: VIIIage.

However, when punters were shown a Rockstar Games logo at the top of Sony’s announcement event, they may have had their expectations unfairly raised for a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto saga (given it’s been six years since V came out, and there’s no chance the studio is ready to even hint at another Red Dead Redemption).

Sadly, it turned out that Sony merely wanted to shout out an "expanded and enhanced" version of Grand Theft Auto V for the console. Not exactly what everyone had in mind.

Though the PS5 is due out at the end of 2020, GTA V won't be available for the console until the second half of 2021. If that seems too long to wait, we’ll remind you that you can currently play the original version on the PS3 and PS4 as well. And PC. And Xbox One.

But those versions of the game aren’t expanded or enhanced, whatever that means.

So, what can we even expect from an expanded and enhanced version of GTA V?

Sadly, we have no idea, though rumours—or rather, deep-held desires from the fans—suggest we could finally get the first DLC expansion of the single-player story.

The official PlayStation Twitter account indicated that there would also be additional "features, content and technical improvements," but that’s not exactly giving the game away either.

However, one publoic benefit of the expanded and enhanced GTA V is the fact that the online version of the game will be available for free exclusively to PS5 owners in the first three months of its launch.

Plus, Rockstar dropped this treat for anyone who may have been bummed by the otherwise underwhelming reveal: "Starting today, all PlayStation Plus members on PlayStation 4 will get GTA$1,000,000 (deposited within 72 hours into their in-game Maze Bank account) each month they play GTA Online until the launch of GTA Online on PlayStation 5."

So, there you go. Happy yet?

The PS5 is due to arrive at the end of 2020.
