We've Been Pronouncing Timothée Chalamet's Name Wrong This Whole Time

Call me by my (real) name.

Timothée Chalamet has been a bit of a breakout star as of late with the successes of Lady Bird and Call Me By Your Name earning him critical praise and multiple award nominations. It appears, however, that despite all the buzz and attention, we still haven't been pronouncing his name correctly.

Frank Ocean interviewed Chalamet for VMan and among a trove of other gems in their brief chat, we finally realised how to pronounce Chalamet's first name.

While most of the world was pronouncing it as Tim-o-thee, Chalamet confessed that it's actually Tim-o-tay. A silent 'h' was our undoing.

"My whole life I was Timmy and then as I got older, it seemed like Timmy was youthing me out, so it’s been Timothée since," he told Ocean. "The real pronunciation is Timo-tay, but I can’t ask people to call me that; it just seems really pretentious."

On behalf of the world, we're so sorry for our ignorance. Just to make sure we sort this all out for once, his French surname, Chalamet, is pronounced Sha-luh-may.

Aside from sorting out that out, Chalamet told Ocean about his favourite places in New York City (FYI, it's Tompkins Square Bagels) and Ocean told him he knew about the (cringe-worthy) statistics rap video he made in high school.

It made a lot of days for a lot of people.

We can only hope the rest of your day is as wholesome as this interaction was.
