Alexa, play "What About Me" by Shannon Noll.

If you were a young teen in the early noughties, or had some older siblings to reminisce with, you’d remember the old school classic Australian Idol that rocked our worlds from the couch on a Saturday night.

The Aussie talent show ran from 2003 to 2009 for a whopping seven seasons—and soon, we’ll be getting the eighth.

Australian Idol is returning to Channel 7 and 7plus in 2023. And they’re looking for singers between the ages of 15 and 28.

“Hopefuls aged between 15 and 28 are invited to showcase their talents from anywhere in Australia by either uploading a video or singing face-to-face with an Australian Idol producer for a chance to proceed to the judges’ audition round of the competition,” the website reads.

It’s literally as simple as turning your camera on for a Zoom call, and you could be the next Shannon Noll, Guy Sebastian, Ricki-Lee or Jessica Mauboy.

And who will you come face-to-face with if you make it through to the show?

The 2003-2009 seasons helmed Osher Günsberg and James Mathison as the loveable, charismatic hosts.

Meanwhile, stern but hilarious Kyle Sandilands occupied the judging seat.

There’s no confirmation on whether any of these stars will be returning, but a whole new line-up might see equally as exciting Aussie stars grace our screens.

Australia Idol will air in 2023 on Channel 7 and 7plus, and you can apply here!
