Prepare Your Vocal Cords 'Cos "Australian Idol" Is Returning to Channel 7 in 2022

Touchdown.

If you've followed the careers of iconic Aussie singers like Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy, Ricki-Lee and Shannon Noll, chances are you first saw them perform on Australian Idol.

The show also helped launch the career of The Bachelor's Osher Günsberg, who was a presenter on the show alongside James Mathison.

Of course, Osher was known as Andrew G back then, and his hair was totally different (it was way more luscious, don't @ me).

Seven seasons of the singing competition aired on Network Ten between 2003 and 2009, before being cancelled due to poor ratings.

However, it was announced earlier today that Australian Idol will be returning to our screens in 2022. This time around, the program will air on Channel 7.

"The biggest show in the world comes to Seven in 2022, and we know that Australians are going to love it," Seven's director of programming, Angus Ross, said in a statement.

"We're home to the biggest franchises in television at Seven, and Idol is the biggest of them all. Bring on 2022."

At this stage, there's been no word on who will host or judge the upcoming season.

Previous judges included Ian Dickson, Marcia Hines, radio host Kyle Sandilands, Jay Dee Springbett and Mark Holden, who was responsible for the show's ultimate accolade: the 'touchdown'.

Could we see some former Australian Idol contestants like Sebastian or Mauboy on the judging panel this time around? It's definitely a possibility.

The exact premiere date hasn't been confirmed yet, but we know one thing for sure: Holden's 'touchdown' must live on.
