Timothée Chalamet Will Play Willy Wonka in Origin Movie and We Can't Even

You had me at Chalamet.

Time for all you sweet tooths to celebrate ‘cos Timothée Chalamet is set to play Willy Wonka in a new Warner Bros. origin film about the chocolate-making genius.

First reported by Deadline, the film will focus on a young Willy Wonka and his adventures prior to opening his infamous chocolate factory and will feature characters created by Roald Dahl.

Calling it right now: we’re defs going to get a scene where Wonka meets an Oompa Loompa for the first time.

This will be the first time that Chalamet gets to flex his singing and dancing muscles as the role is set to feature several musical numbers.

Chalamet singing and dancing? Say no more.

Side note: anyone else remember Chalamet's high school assignment where he rapped under the name 'Lil Timmy Tim'? We do.

Apparently, the Oscar-nominated actor had been the preferred choice for the iconic role for a while, but only recently did the stars align in his schedule to allow for him to take on the part.

Chalamet will be the third actor to take on the role, following in the footsteps of Johnny Depp in 2005 and Gene Wilder in 1971.

The role of Willy Wonka is just the cherry on top for the 25-year-old actor, who later this year will be seen starring in Dennis Villeneuve’s space epic Dune, quirky director Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, and Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.

For those worried if Chalamet will be let down by the directing, the planned Wonka origin film is in good hands, with acclaimed Paddington director Paul King helming the project.

On the back of Chalamet's casting, let's all enjoy the internet's reaction to how many films Chalamet is being cast in right now.

Only bad news out of this story is Chalamet fans will have to wait until 2023 before they can see the Wonka prequel film.

I know, I’m sad too.
