We've Ranked the 10 Most Swoonworthy Shots From "The French Dispatch" Trailer

Cancel everything you're doing, because the first trailer for Wes Anderson's 10th movie The French Dispatch is finally here, and it's both mystifying and relentlessy detailed. Basically, Wes Anderon has gone full Wes Anderson.

Check it out for yourself if you haven't seen it already.

If you're feeling a tad confused about the film's plot after watching the trailer, that's totally understandable. It's difficult not to be distracted by the director's colour palette and the star-studded cast.

As per IMDb, The French Dispatch is "a love letter to journalists set at an outpost of an American newspaper in a fictional 20th-century French city." The film will bring to life a collection of stories from the final issue of the titular (and fake) American magazine, so that's why the trailer radiates such chaotic energy. 

Considering the movie is one of the most highly anticipated cinematic events of 2020, it's only natural that we take a moment to countdown the 10 most swoonworthy shots from the trailer.

It was a real effort to select just 10, but we did our best.

10. The office of The French Dispatch. 

This early shot in the trailer gives us a feel for the film's overall aesthetic. It's entirely reminiscent of The Grand Budapest Hotel, except instead of opting for pink and red tones, he's using more blue this time around.

It's like stepping into an entirely different world.

9. Elisabeth Moss staring directly at the camera.

If you're familiar with Elisabeth's work in The Handmaid's Tale, you're probably familiar with her epic death stare. While her expression in this shot doesn't come close to some of her more infuriated looks, she's still reminding people everywhere not to mess with her.

Plus, what's going on with that writing? 

8. Owen Wilson, Bill Murray and Fisher Stevens chilling out.

It doesn't matter whether they're reading books or fixing bikes, this is the group you want to hang with. 

7. Frances McDormand completely owning it.

Portraying journalist Lucinda Krementz, Frances is looking super fierce in this shot. Although we can't tell a lot about what's going on behind her, it could possibly be the result of a demonstration, as one of the stories is based on Mavis Gallant's two-part article "The Events in May: A Paris Notebook".

5. Saoirse Ronan back in Wes Anderson's cinematic universe.

Speaking of powerful, Saoirse appears to be in total control of this scene. We don't know if it's the curly hair, the dress or her general vibe, but she looks completely comfortable as her character in The French Dispatch.

Never thought you'd want to paint your hallway yellow? Think again. 

3. The "No Crying" sign. 

Wes Anderson is known for his subtle comedy and whimsical sense of humour. This shot proves The French Dispatch is likely to provide some laughs as well.

We couldn't not include this shot of the actress' striking blue eyes. Seriously, is she wearing contacts?

Of course, we saved the best until last. We don't know what we did to deserve this shot, but we must protect it at all costs. In the trailer, Timothée lets out a tiny shriek as Frances pulls back the curtain. We're not entirely sure what's going on here, but we can't wait to see it. 

The French Dispatch is scheduled to be released on 24 July 2020 in the US. We'll update you as soon as we know when it will land in Aussie cinemas this year.
