TikTok of the Week: It’s Christmas and Users Are Recreating This Genius Gift Wrapping Joke

At this point, I can’t tell if it’s creative or competitive.

Welcome to another instalment of TikTok of the Week, where we highlight our favourite original TikTok from the past seven days (and give out a few honourable mentions as well).

If you missed last week’s compilation of weirdly named dogs, you can catch up here.

So, ‘cos it’s Chrissy time, here’s the gift of some hilarious TikTok videos.

This week’s winner is…

On Thursday, TikTok user @elijahmooney8 posted a video showing viewers his favourite tradition of wrapping Christmas presents to look like something not even remotely close to the actual gift.

Elijah shows viewers the transition of wrapping a cocktail shaker and recipe book to look like a teddy bear, which is the last thing I was expecting.

Aside from the fact that this is a genius idea that is sure to bamboozle your relatives this silly season, what makes this video so amazing is the backing music and the transition from the unwrapped gift to the imposter gift.

While it’s a little bit hard to say, it looks like @elijahmooney8 is the original creator of this TikTok. But oh boy, has it been recreated by other TikTokers.

At first, it looked like just another simple joke with people wrapping objects to look like individual ice skates or lamps, but then Gen Z took the trend and ran with it, and honestly, I fear their gift-wrapping skills.

Creators started wrapping objects to look like vacuum cleaners or ladders. Man, one girl somehow turned a jumper into a damn picnic table.

I’m shook.

On a side note, even if we’re all just being fooled and they’re actually just wrapping the items that the gift is meant to look like (which is very likely), I am amazed by their skills.

Not only is pretty much every gift covered in pristine, unwrinkled wrapping paper, but each one of these would have taken a lifetime to cover up, which is impressive.

This just proves that Gen Z really has skills that previous generations should envy (yes boomers, we’re looking at you).

Our honourable mentions go to…

While this week's winner had Christmas on his side, there were a few other videos that nearly made the top spot for us this week.

Firstly, this video of some wild TikToker @sassiani_meanass putting their face into the snow and it leaving a perfect imprint has me deceased.

My Australian brain cannot comprehend this.

*Warning: this video contains explicit language.*

I’ve never seen anything funnier than that #snow #nyc #lgbt #lesbian #fyp

I just have two questions: Why does it look 3D and how are they wearing shorts and a T-shirt?

Finally, our third shout out goes to @elsa.majimbo for saying what we all think and feel about plans, and someone cancelling them.

Don’t apologize, you’re doing the right thing

Her sunglasses are what make this video for me. What a queen.
