TikTok of the Week: Apparently Some People Didn’t Know Big W Stands for 'Big Woolworths'

We’ve uncovered another Australian mystery.

So, for the second time, here are the videos that grabbed our attention the most this week.

This week’s winner is…

On Tuesday, TikTok user @tobyrozario posted a video to his account sort of duetting a reveal video from @murphtox about Australia’s beloved stores Big W and Woolies.

In his duet, Toby was shocked to find out that the 'W' in Big W actually stands for Woolworths.

… Wait, you’re telling me some people didn’t know this in 2020?

Well, apparently they didn't, because the video sparked a number of comments and response videos claiming that they’re sure it’s not ‘Big Woolworths’ but ‘Big Warehouse’ or 'Big Win' instead.

In fact, @murphtox actually made his own response video to the claims. He was pictured standing in front of a Google search confirming the shocking news.

I don’t know about you, but I’m gonna take @murphtox’s word for it considering he is literally a Woolies employee.

According to Wikipedia (a super reliable source), Big W is actually named after Woolies.

"BIG W's name reflects the complementary relationship it has with Woolworths Supermarkets and the W stands for Woolworths," Wikipedia says.

All that aside though, my main concern is that people just didn’t know this at all.

Personally, I knew that Big W was owned by Woolies and I just put two and two together. How did people not get the hint from the shared rewards cards?

Apparently even some Big W employees didn’t catch on. C'mon guys.
