Every now and then, TikTok promotes a trend or two that basically exposes the whole community for all living essentially the same lives.

This time, with a new trend that is meant to be a play on words to Olivia Rodrigo’s new song “Déjà vu”, TikTok users are finding out that most of us don’t have symmetrical faces.

The original point of the trend is to show the different sides of someone’s face and joke about the fact that they’re seeing déjà vu because of facial symmetry. This trend is also being performed by twins, for the same reason.

According to Psychology Today, a lot of experimental designs and research has found that in general, humans rate symmetrical faces as more attractive than people with less symmetry, but if we’re being honest, who cares about what science says. Y’all are beautiful.

Initially those who tried the trend—and were disappointed by their lack of symmetry—were kind of sad about it and low-key mad.

However, as the internet goes, many users started trying out the trend as a light-hearted way to make fun of themselves, and oh my is it relatable.

Idk about you, but we’re gonna take this one as a reminder that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, not science or an inverted filter.

All you need to do is search for the ‘inverted filter’ on TikTok. The easiest way to do this is to find a video of the same trend and click the sound. That way you’ll also have the Olivia Rodrigo audio.
