The New "Fantastic Beasts" Comes Out Next Year, But Fans Are Mad Johnny Depp Is Still In It

Trigger warning: This article discusses domestic violence.

The premiere date for the latest installment of the Fantastic Beasts series, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, has been revealed, but fans are displeased to see that Depp is still in the film.

Due to the film still not being released for another year (November 16, 2018), fans are asking that Depp's character, Grindelwald, be recast due to his recent history as an alleged domestic abuser.

In 2016, Johnny Depp was accused of physical abuse against his now-ex-wife, Amber Heard, after she filed for divorce from the actor. Depp and Heard later settled the divorce proceedings and she withdrew the domestic violence restraining order.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was released later that year (DEFINITE SPOILERS AHEAD) and Grindelwald, disguised as the Director of Magical Security Percival Graves, was played by Colin Farrell. By the end of the film, however, Grindelwald's disguise is unveiled and his true face is played by Depp.

In the recent wave of sexual violence allegations sweeping Hollywood over the past few months, many of the accused have been held accountable and removed from the series and films they were working on. Netflix has announced they will no longer work with Kevin Spacey and have cancelled his involvement in upcoming productions, and White Gold is being postponed until the investigations into Ed Westwick's rape allegations are resolved.

Because of this, fans of the series were confused as to why Depp was still cast, while other actors like Spacey were being held accountable for their alleged off-screen actions.

It doesn't look like there are any plans to address this situation, so we'll just have to wait and see how things unfold.
