The Constant "Cyberpunk 2077" Delays Are Now Holding Back Other Games Too, Like "Path of Exile"

Surely it can’t get any worse than this?

Yesterday we got the unfortunate news that Cyberpunk 2077 would be delayed for the third time until 10 December. And honestly, while it wasn’t unexpected, I think I’ll be shocked if we actually get our hands on it this year.

Now to make matters worse, the game's delay has forced others to get pushed forward so that players don’t have to choose between games.

Essentially, Grinding Gear Games’ Path of Exile 3.13 end-game expansion was planned for a December release, but even though it’s on track in terms of development, Grinding Gear Games has pulled the plug on this date so that it doesn’t get in the way of Cyberpunk 2077.

A weird and bold move from them I’d say but Grinding Gear Games CEO Chris Wilson clarified in a post on Path of Exile forums that they don’t want fans to have to choose between the two games.

"We do not want to put our players in a position of having to choose between these two games, so we have decided to step out of the way and delay the release of Path of Exile 3.13 until January," he said.

While I’m not sure why the order of release matters, it seems to be a point of discussion.

If PoE and Cyberpunk started at the same time, how would you decide. from r/pathofexile

Path of Exile 3.13’s is set to be finished by early/mid-December and is planned for a release in January next year.

From the looks of things, fans of Path of Exile have been a little less forgiving than Cyberpunk 2077 fans (yikes).

It’s not all bad news though: Grinding Gear Games are planning to make tracks on the next expansion and host a Chrissy event while we wait (yay).

"During the month of delay before release, we will start work on the 3.14 expansion," said Chris.

"So that you still have some interesting Path of Exile stuff to play over the Christmas/New Year break, we're planning to run at least one multi-week event (for example, Flashback).

"We'll confirm details of these event(s) once we have put together a plan."
