"The Big Bang Theory" Is Coming to an End

And a solemn "bazinga" rings out across the land.
Though we used to think The Big Bang Theory would outlast the heat death of the universe—fitting, given the show’s title—creator Chuck Lorre and the show’s production studios have confirmed the series will come to an end with its upcoming twelfth season.
In a statement, CBS, Warner Bros. Television and Chuck Lorre Productions said, “We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close.”
The twelfth season of the series kicks off in the United States on 24 September, and will follow-on from the wedding between Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik). It will officially wrap mid-2019.

Though twelve seasons means The Big Bang Theory will end its run as the longest lasting multi-camera series in history, it’s possible the show could’ve kept going if the producers could afford it. However, cast salaries skyrocketed over the years (in line with the show’s success) and Vulture estimates Parsons, Johnny Galecki (Leonard) and Kaley Cuoco (Penny) alone will have earned $139.8 million each by the time S12 wraps up.
It’s important to remember, however, that The Big Bang Theory will never really die. First of all, reruns will echo throughout history, or at least until visual media goes extinct. And there is of course Young Sheldon, a new hit based on the early days of its genius title character.
Though that show will probably cease to exist when actor Iain Armitage is no longer 'young', we’re certain Lorre and company are working on some kind of de-aging device to keep that money train running for decades to come.
