Ten for Tex: The Top Five Moments of AFL Round 13

Walker put on a show in his 250th, and Neale Daniher continues to inspire.
With five days and eight games of footy, it’s been a massive weekend with some incredible moments.
This weekend saw the ninth iteration of the King’s (previously Queen’s) Birthday Big Freeze match, which aims to raise funds to fight MND in honour of AFL legend, Neale Daniher.
So, let’s get into the top five moments of Round 13.
5. Horne-Francis seals the game.
With nine straight wins heading into Friday’s match against the Western Bulldogs, Port Adelaide had to be confident coming in.
Despite a fight from the Bulldogs all night, it was Port’s game to win and win they did.
The night was capped off with a magical goal to the former #1 pick and former Kangaroo, Jason Horne-Francis.
4. From stacking shelves to scoring goals.
It’s been a fairytale story for Ryan Maric. Just two weeks ago, he was stacking shelves at Safeway.
Then he was selected in the #1 slot in the mid-season draft and played his first AFL game for West Coast on Saturday.
All the pressure was on him as he took his first kick in the AFL in front of goals.
He slotted it beautifully, and finished the day with two goals.
3. A bit of Fyfe magic.
Nat Fyfe has come a long way since the peak of his career, but sometimes he reminds you there’s a reason he’s got two Brownlows to his name.
On Saturday night against Richmond, Fyfe exploded out of the pack and kicked an absolutely incredible goal from the pocket, giving some hope to the Fremantle faithful.
2. Ten for Tex.
Heading out for his 250th game, Taylor ‘Tex’ Walker was always going to have a big day.
But no one expected him to go this big.
Tex kicked an incredible 10 goals for the day, paving the way for him to join the exclusive 10+ goal club, only five of whom are current players.
1. A strong showing for Neale.
To all fans of Australian football, Neale Daniher is a hero.
The former Essendon captain and Melbourne coach was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease in 2013, but continues to fight.
Since then, the annual ‘Big Freeze’ match has been held every year to raise funds and to celebrate the contribution of an out and out football legend.
On Monday afternoon, Neale was given the guard of honour, in front of 83,000 fans.
