Taylor Swift Has Been Cast in Another Movie and We’re Praying It’s Better Than “Cats”

The film also stars Margot Robbie.

Since the release of the feature film version of the musical Cats, we've been praying for Taylor Swift to land another movie role, so that she can redeem herself in the acting world after that box office flop.

Finally, that day has come after Variety announced the country/pop musician would star in director David O. Russel’s next film at New Regency.

Not only is this the fifth film role for Swift but it also comes with a star-studded line up of Margot Robbie (Birds of Prey), Christian Bale (Batman), John David Washington (Tenet), Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody), and Zoë Saldana (Guardians of the Galaxy).

The new film is yet to be given a title but considering it is both written and directed by Russel (who also directed gems like Silver Linings Playbook), I think we’re in for a goodie.

Much like the new title of the film, the plotline is also being kept hush hush, so there’s nothing to spill just yet.

Swift made her acting debut in the 2010 rom-com Valentine’s Day, followed by a voice actor role in the 2012 Dr. Seuss animation The Lorax, then another in 2014 for The Giver.

Her most notable role (aside from her Netflix doco Miss Americana) was her portrayal of Bombalurina in Cats, and boy did that film not go down well.

Swift starred alongside Jennifer Hudson, Idris Elba, Judi Dench, Jason Derulo, Rebel Wilson, and Ian McKellen but that didn’t stop even her from thinking the movie was whack. In fact, she told Variety that it’s “a weird ass movie” and in promoting her doco, said that “it wasn’t the best experience.”

The film currently has a 2.8/10 rating on IMDb so if you haven’t yet watched it, I wouldn’t bother.

It seems that Swift has been keeping herself real busy over the last two years and plans to continue that track record with this new movie.

In August 2020, she released her indie-folk album Folklore, very quickly followed by its sister album Evermore in December 2020, and then the singer-songwriter released her first ‘From the Vault’ track from her rerecorded sophomore album Fearless.

While we’re still super excited for the rest of Swifts new rerecorded songs, we also plan on getting hyped to see exactly what Swift’s new film role is.

Stay tuned for any updates and goss on the film.
