Swedish Court Finds A$AP Rocky Guilty of Assault and He Is Disappointed

The rapper has been handed a two-year suspended sentence, with no jail time.
Last month, American hip hop star A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, was charged with assault for his involvement in a brawl in Stockholm on 30 June. Following the confrontation with 19-year-old Mustafa Jari, he was arrested and put in jail.
As reported by The Australian, the rapper and two members of his entourage were held by authorities for several weeks until arguments in their assault trial concluded on 2 August. They were then released pending the verdict, and A$AP Rocky returned to the US.
Ultimately, the Swedish court ruled that the rapper was guilty of assault, despite claims of self-defence. He was given a two-year suspended sentence and ordered to pay compensation to the victim, but he will not serve any jail time.
The Grammy-nominated rapper was not present in the Stockholm courtroom when his verdict was handed down, and instead has taken to Instagram to express his disappointment with the verdict.
His lengthy lock-up prior to the verdict angered US President Donald Trump, who claimed the videos of A$AP prior to the brawl showed him being "followed and harassed by troublemakers", tweeting the hashtag #FreeRocky.
According to reports, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian also tried to help get the "Praise the Lord" rapper released by lobbying The White House to take action.
