Stephanie Beatriz, Dascha Polanco and Daphne Rubin-Vega Zoomed Us to Talk "In The Heights"

Which song from the musical do they love the most? Find out now!

If you're a fan of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton, you're probably pretty keen to watch In The Heights.

The talented playwright, actor, singer and producer wrote In The Heights when he was a sophomore at Wesleyan University in 1999. After an off-Broadway run in 2007, the show finally opened on Broadway in March 2008.

Now, Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu has helmed a movie adaptation of the musical, which explores three days in the characters' lives in the New York City Latino neighbourhood of Washington Heights.

Our Editor Caitlin caught up with Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Dascha Polanco (Orange Is the New Black) and Daphne Rubin-Vega—who played Mimi Marquex in the Broadway musical Rent—to get some insight into what shooting the film was like.

The trio star as the funny and sassy salon ladies Carla (Beatriz), Daniela (Rubin-Vega) and Cuca (Polanco), who run a popular salon, and provide a safe space for the women in their community.

Caitlin found out how emotional the final day on set was, what they're hoping viewers will take away from the film, and why having queer characters was so important.

Plus, the toughest question of all: Which song from the musical do they love the most?

Check it out below!

In The Heights premieres in Australian cinemas on 24 June. It is rated PG for mild coarse language and sexual references.
