That “Space Jam” Sequel Is Really Happening, Thanks To “Fast & Furious” Director Justin Lin

Last year, it was revealed thespian LeBron James – hot off Trainwreck – was ready to take Michael Jordan’s place in a sequel to Space Jam.

There’s not been much movement on the project since then, leading us all to think that James would need to find another project to get that long-desired Oscar.

However, The Hollywood Reporter has now revealed that Justin Lin is close to signing on as director, making Space Jam 2 his follow-up to Fast & Furious 6 and the upcoming Star Trek Beyond.

Lin has been working on a screenplay with Andrew Dodge and Alfred Botello, and is reportedly eager to both produce and direct the flick.

Before Star Trek, Lin helmed four consecutive Fast & Furious films, along with episodes from True Detective’s second season. (Yes, that’s the bad season, but there was plenty of blame to go around there.)

Warner Bros is yet to set a release date for Space Jam 2. Let’s just hope we don’t have to wait another year for the next development.

If this takes much longer, James might be in the ‘baseball’ portion of his career by the time cameras start rolling. Here’s hoping Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck can retain their youthful looks in the meantime.
