Sorry But PS5 and Xbox Series X Stock Will Still Be Hard to Find Until Late 2021

I’m not crying, you’re crying.

Looks like we'll have to wait until later in the year before PS5 and Xbox Series X stock will become more readily available, thanks to an update from their chip developers.

On Wednesday, AMD—the developers of the processors, graphic technology and software that goes into the PlayStation and Xbox consoles—reported their fourth quarter for 2020, completing their full year of results.

While they were able to set records with their products, as Tom’s Hardware reports, the coronavirus pandemic has caused a lot of problems with distribution and the shortage of products, mainly for chips needed for the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Essentially, CPU and GPU shortages are the top problem and will continue to look that way due to the influence of the pandemic and the trade tensions that are going on between the US and China rn.

So yes, this will be impacting the distribution and stock levels of the PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and some lower end PCs.

This is kind of to be expected though. If you’re someone that has been trying to get their hands on a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S for a while now you’d know exactly how competitive it is and how quickly stores sell out of stock.

Both AMD and Sony have confirmed that the demand for the new consoles exceeded expectations by a long shot.

Heck, even companies that are trying to sell custom consoles at much higher prices are being bombarded with customers.

Fortunately, AMD hasn’t just left us in the dark with no answers. While chip shortages are expected to continue, they should start to ease in mid-2021 and end later in the year.

This is due to the expectation that added production capacity will come online and allow Microsoft and Sony to start creating more consoles.
