Sky News Says Sorry After Displaying a Senator's "Appalling" Sexist Comments

Senator Leyonhjelm still refuses to apologise for the initial comments.

Sky News has come under fire after they displayed appalling comments on their on-screen strap made by Senator David Leyonhjelm.

Sky News has since apologised for the broadcast and suspended the producer who gave the strap the green light.

The comments follow an argument that arose in the Senate last week, where Senator Hanson-Young claimed Senator Leyonhjelm told her to "f*** off" after she confronted him about some comments he made while she was making a motion.

Senator Leyonhjelm has refused to make any apology for his actions or comments, telling the ABC he has the right to voice his opinion.

"I do not agree with Senator Hanson-Young's sentiments about all men being rapists and I believe I have the right to voice my opinion accordingly," Senator Leyonhjelm told the ABC.

"That Senator Hanson-Young took offence from my comments is an issue for her, not me.

"However, I am prepared to rephrase my comments. I strongly urge Senator Hanson-Young to continue shagging men as she pleases."

Senator Hanson-Young has tweeted that she's seeking legal advice, but it's unclear whether it will be the comments made by Senator Leyonhjelm or Sky News' broadcast of them.

It comes after another incident over the weekend on dad-rock radio station, Triple M, fired former AFL-star Barry Hall for disgusting comments made about a co-host's wife.
