Sizzler Keeps Closing Restaurants Around Australia, So Savour Its Cheese Toast While You Can

All things must end.
One year ago - almost to the day - it was revealed that the “Age of Sizzler” may be over in Australia, with its owner, Collins Food, writing down the value of the family eatery by $37.5 million.
Collins Food added it would not invest any more money in the chain, as they no longer considered Sizzler “to be a strategic growth prospect in Australia.”
It was bad news for the 26 remaining Sizzlers in Australia. Today comes even worse news.
In their most recent report (courtesy of News.com.au), Collins says they’ve closed four Sizzlers around the country and will “continue to monitor our remaining restaurants closely and take appropriate action where necessary” over the next financial year. You know what that means?

Sizzler revenue declined locally by nearly 18 per cent this past financial year. And yet, their popularity is increasing in Asia, with 65 stores now located in Thailand, China and Japan.
At least Collins Food could report that they returned to profit this financial year, bolstered by the success of another little franchise under their banner called KFC.
Don’t expect to say goodbye to the Colonel anytime soon.
