China Has Pioneered Face-Scanning Tech Specifically to Make It Easier to Buy Fried Chicken

Necessity is the mother of invention, and nothing is more necessary than ‘easy fried chicken purchases’.
A KFC restaurant in Hangzhou, China has begun testing a new payment method created by Alibaba that utilises face-scanning technology, Mashable reports.
Their “Smile to Pay” process allows you to place your order on a touch screen board and then face a built-in camera to authenticate your payment (attached to your face/account).
If you’re worried that someone might try to pull an Ethan Hunt and impersonate you with a convincing Mission: Impossible-style facial mask, there is a foolproof second mode of authentication: You’ll also need to enter in your phone number. (Wait, how does that make it safer?)

You may have come across this kind of technology when you recently returned to Australia after an overseas flight and found yourself facing a camera instead of a customs officer.
So, if we can trust facial recognition with our borders, why aren’t we letting it give us faster access to fried chicken?
Australia must not be left behind the rest of the world.
