National Conscience Shane Warne Tells Nick Kyrgios To "Step Up & Start Winning"

Shane Warne, very much the Jiminy Cricket of the sporting world, has a message for Nick Kyrgios: straighten up and fly right.

Warney took to Facebook to tell the 20-year-old Tennis player that he’s “testing our patience mate” and that “u [sic] need to respect the game of tennis & yourself.”

“[I]t’s time to step up & start winning, no excuses," he said.

"No shame in losing, but show us you will never give up [and] that you will give it everything to be the best you can be.”

While the moralising may actually be on point – particularly given Kyrgios’ recent exploits and first-round US Open defeat to Andy Murray – it’s a bit rich coming from Warney, whose career was littered with scandals of both the salacious and professional variety.

Although, perhaps that's precisely why Warne feels he can impart the advice to Nick Kyrgios. He's speaking from experience.

This is certainly a case of ‘don’t do as Donny Don’t does.’
