Nick Kyrgios Says He’s Not Dedicated to Tennis, Confesses Love for Drinking Milkshakes Instead

Nick Kyrgios is out of the U.S. Open following a loss to fellow Aussie John Millman in four sets.

The controversial 22-year-old offered plenty of explanations for his shock loss to media after the game, citing an injury, a general disinterest in tennis, and a passion for milkshakes.

"There are players out there that are more dedicated, that want to get better, that strive to get better every day, the one-per-centers," Kyrgios said, according to the ABC.

"I'm not that guy."

Kyrgios also explained that, in recent weeks, he played two hours of basketball a day rather than prepare to the fullest for his professional tennis meets. Then, he would cap it with an icy treat.

"I was going to ice cream … getting a milkshake every day. I was less dedicated,” he explained.

However, he claims his heart was indeed in it for the U.S. Open, but the shoulder injury that has plagued him all month ultimately did him in.

“This week I was dedicated, and my shoulder starts hurting,” he said.

When asked if he would ever likely “be [as] dedicated” as his fellow players, he admitted, “probably not, honestly not.”

Kyrgios still spoke highly of Millman, who has similarly struggled with a shoulder injury.

"I get happy when I see someone like that that's been through a lot,” he said.

“He's got a good opportunity. Obviously the draw opens up for him now.”
