Nick Kyrgios Could Face $US25K Fine And 28-Day Suspension If He Causes More Trouble

The Association of Tennis Professionals has brought the hammer down on rabble-rousing Aussie Nick Kyrgious for the sledge heard ‘round the world.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Kyrgios has been struck with a suspended $US25,000 fine (amounting to approximately $34,728 in Australian dollars) and a 28-day suspension if he gets in trouble again before February 24.
That means, should Kyrgious receive just one more fine for “verbal or physical abuse” or a penalty of more than $US5000 for any other offences at ATP events, the $25k fine and 28-day suspension will kick in.
This follows Kyrgios’ earlier fine of $US12,500 ($17,364 in AUD) from the ATP.
The whole brouhaha began two weeks ago during a Rogers Cup match, when Kyrgios was caught on camera telling opponent Stan Wawrinka he “banged [his] girlfriend”, Donna Vekic (a Croatian tennis player). Pretty gross.
Kyrgios eventually posted on Facebook his regret over the incident.

The Association of Tennis Professionals’ executive vice-preisdent, rules & competition, Gayle David Bradshaw appreciated his apology, but noted that the behaviour was still “egregious and reflected poorly on our sport.”
“It is with these factors in mind I feel he should have the opportunity to 'earn' his way out of additional sanctions."
